If you see this unverified flag next to a sender's name in webmail, please be cautious when interacting with the email.
When this flag is shown, the email might not have come from who it says it does.
We check information contained within an email against information available in the sender's domain name records. If these do not meet the sending domain's requirements as expected, we will display "unverified" next to the sender's name.
Example:
In this example the email is flagged as unverified, behind the scenes our system detected the email whilst appearing to be sent from Woolworths has been sent from an email address that does not match the official Woolworths account.
Unverified is showing next to a 'trusted' sender
Sometimes an email may display this unverified flag next to an email who you believe is the trusted or real sender. When this occurs, it may be that the sender or the organisation sending the email has some missing or incorrect information in their domain name records. It's best to let the sender know this so their IT team can rectify the issue.
