A Primary account is a separate mailbox or otherwise known as a 'real' email address. This account allows you to send, receive and store email. It can be accessed via webmail or an email application.
An Alias is another email address that points to a primary account. It does not have its own mailbox. Using an alias you can send or receive email using the alias address, but all emails are stored in the primary account.
