Recently, a number of our customers have asked us to confirm if an email is legitimate. The email typically claims it is from The Messaging Company, is related to The Messaging Company, or it is from your current or former email provider.
Unfortunately, some of these emails are spam. There are some bad actors out there trying to obtain sensitive customer information through what is known as phishing, so if you receive an email that you are not sure about (such as the examples below), it is important that you do NOT click any links in the email.
If you have received a spam (or phishing) email, please report this to us by following these steps: How to report spam emails
Some things to look out for
- The name of the company is not quite right, i.e. poor spelling or capitalisation
- Poor grammar and spelling in the email itself
- Requests to validate your account when you have not engaged or contact the company or support team
- Requests for your sign in credentials (password) or asking you to sign into an unfamiliar website
- Contains a suspicious attachment
- Is formatted differently to previous emails you received from us or your previous provider
- Advises you action is required, but the date mentioned does not match your renewal dates
